N°5 was home to the Brotherhood of long-gowned Surgeons, the only ones authorised to carry out operations. N° 15, the former Couvent des Cordeliers, of which only the Gothic refectory remains, was the meeting-place for members of a club which included Danton, Desmoulins and Hébert. Marat lived opposite, where he was actually stabbed by Charlotte Corday. N°12 is home to the Faculty of Medicine of Paris Descartes (Paris V) University and also to the Museum of the History of Medicine.
