Under Louis XV, the Monnaie (Mint) was transferred here along with the coin-striking workshops (today in Pessac, near Bordeaux). The beautifully laid-out workshops were designed along clean and simple lines by Antoine (1768-75). The Monnaie de Paris has undergone extensive renovations, in a bid to showcase the museum's workshops and outline the different facets and uses of metal. It is a venue for temporary exhibitions, mainly contemporary art, and also home to Guy Savoy's restaurant and the café Frappé.
