The Musée de Cluny, the National Museum of the Middle Ages, is housed in two superb buildings: the 2C Gallo-Roman baths of Lutetia and the 14C mansion of the abbots of Cluny. The galleries display exhibits such as the "milles fleurs" tapestries (including the six superb Dame à la Licorne pieces), sculptures (statues from Notre-Dame cathedral), gold work (the gold altar of Basle), stained glass (medallions from Saint-Chapelle), paintings (the Pietà from Tarascon), wrought ironwork and furniture, all of which give an insight into daily life in the Middle Ages.
