This famous university, which is over 700 years old, owes its name to the humanist Robert de Sorbon who founded it in 1257. The current buildings date from 1885 to 1903. The architect managed to accommodate 22 lecture halls, a magnificent library, countless offices and miles of corridors, all decorated with historical and allegorical paintings. The Sorbonne remains the most prestigious university in France, particularly in the fields of the arts and human sciences.
