Dominated by the harmonious neo-Classical facade of the national theatre (the work of architectural duo Hellmer and Fellmer), the square has a fine selection of Secessionist buildings, including, on the left at n°1, Ferenc Sztarill's amazing Hotel Astoria (1902) with its vertigo-inducing curvaceous architecture. On the ground floor is the Café Emke, once frequented by Entre Ady and other poets resident in the city.
