This is without doubt one of south Vendée's major religious edifices. Founded in the late 11C, it owes its name of Royal Abbey to Alienor of Aquitaine who watched over its fate. The superbly restored church façade is a masterpiece of Romanesque art, as are the cloisters. A fascinating and interactive museography invites the visitor to explore this centre of spirituality. In summertime, make sure you see the visits, staged by costumed actors and the night shows.
