The houses of plantation owners are generally decorated with family portraits, but at Belle Meade, a stud farm since 1816, the portraits are of thoroughbred racehorses. For more than 80 years, racehorse owners worldwide have come here to look for promising yearlings. The 1853 neo-Greek mansion boasts high limestone columns, marble-effect woodwork and luxurious furniture. 19C cabriolets and luxury stalls can be seen in the property's stables.
