It's impossible to miss the citadel and the jagged lines of its ramparts, streaking through the wooded slopes. Gigantic trees soften the military architecture. To reach the fortified area, you can head up the Route Merveilleuse, taking in the Tour Joyeuse, once part of the former counts' castle. The citadel, many times besieged, offers kilometres of paths with views over the Sambre and Meuse Valley and the brick and slate cityscape of Namur.
