St Sophia's Church was founded in the 14C. Within its campanile, of which only two storeys remain intact, there is a spiral staircase that suggests it might have served as a minaret under the Ottomans. Beautifully restored, the walls exhibit a few vestiges of its polychrome marble panels and fragments of frescoes in the apse (Christ in Majesty) and in the chapel, to the right (a fine narrative scene of the Nativity of Mary).
