The Alefkandra neighbourhood, nicknamed "Little Venice", is populated by tall houses; some, dating from the 18C, have corbelled wooden loggias to the rear, facing out to sea. While waiting for the early evening - the best time of day for a stroll around the narrow streets - be sure to visit the church, Panagia Paraportiani, a disparate ensemble of five churches from the 16C-17C, which stands between the sea and a door of the former Venetian kastro.
