Almost a mile long, a majestic avenue of oaks planted in 1743 welcomes visitors to this plantation, which acted as the setting for some of the scenes in the movie Gone with the Wind. Although the neo-colonial-style main house dates only from 1930, the estate is home to old slave houses with reconstructed interiors, and also offers interesting exhibitions on the culture and history of African Americans. Children will enjoy visiting the butterfly glasshouse and flower gardens.
