Occupying a unique strategic position, Montsoreau was once one of the mightiest fortresses in Anjou. The view from the vertiginous ramparts over the untamed waters of the River Loire is a reminder of the appeal of the site. The château was rebuilt from 1450 and embellished until it took its present form as a Renaissance retreat. Sold after the Revolution, the restored building now houses the conceptual works of the Art & Language collective, founded in the late 1960s.
