Atop a rock that forms a vast plateau, the citadel looms high above the sea, commanding splendid views. A portal in the rampart guards its entrance. Here and there emerge the vestiges of a 17C hammam and old cisterns surrounded by scrub. Then, at the end of the steep path, Agia Sophia (St Sophia's Church) comes into view, exuding a calm and fresh aura. From the plateau, the panorama over the bay and the lower city is grandiose.
