Piazza dei Mercanti is a quiet, picturesque square in the heart of medieval Milan. The Palazzo dei Giureconsulti (1564) is adorned with a statue of St Ambrose the Teacher on its façade. An equestrian statue can be admired in a niche on the façade of the Palazzo della Ragione (or Broletto Nuovo), which was built in the 13C and enlarged in the 18C; it now hosts photography exhibitions. The other palazzi on the square exude a sense of harmony, with their loggias and Gothic arcades.
