The Freedom Tower is one of Miami-Dade County's most impressive buildings. The 1925 structure housed the Miami News for more than 30 years before it was turned into a processing centre for Cuban refugees in 1962. As a symbol of liberation for the Cuban community, it was renamed "Freedom Tower". When the centre was closed in the mid-1970s, the tower was unoccupied for many years. It is now the Museum of Art and Design.
