The Brooks is the oldest fine-arts museum in Tennessee. Housed in a building dating from 1916, it boasts a collection of over 9 000 works of art, including paintings by Italian Renaissance and Baroque masters (Van Dyck, Manfredi); European Impressionists (Corot, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley); 18C and 19C English and American artists (including a superb series of works by English portrait painters Gainsborough, Reynolds and Lawrence); and 20C artists (O'Keeffe, Wesley, Segal).
