A gem of Alsace Romanesque architecture, Marmoutier abbey church is graced with a fine Romanesque façade built of red Vosges sandstone. Inside, only the narthex, crowned by domes, is Romanesque. The chancel (remodelled in the 18C) boasts Louis XV stalls. The remains of a Merovingian church, dating from 724, were discovered beneath the crypt. Don't miss the original organ cases (1709-46) by Silbermann, among the finest in Alsace. Their restoration was entrusted to Albert Schweitzer.
