Upper Austria's most important monastery has been home to Benedictines since the 11C. The current Baroque-style buildings are the result of remodelling between 1686 and 1751 by Carlo Antonio Carlone and later Jakob Prandtauer. The unmissable Altdorfer Galerie has pictures by Albrecht Altdorfer - the master of the Danube School - equally talented as a painter, engraver, architect and printmaker.
