The banks of the River Slanic typify the ideal of rural Romania. From the mouth of the valley upwards, there are self-sufficient little villages of small farms. The landscape is dotted with the symbols of Romanian peasant life: wells, crosses, capita (haystacks). Above Sârbesti, the river runs trhough more mountainous terrain before being shrouded by forests. Continue to Lopatari, the furthest village in the valley.
