The Obermarkt or market square retains a group of old half-timbered houses (note in particular n°s 14, 21 and 23). The market fountain is dedicated to St George. The town hall, in the Gothic style, was built between 1512 and 1527. Above the door of the staircase turret, a sculpture by Juppe depicts Elizabeth holding the coat of arms of her house of Hessen-Thuringia. The glockenspiel clock sounds the hours with a cock's crow.
