The historic town unfolds along the north bank of the Reuss, an outlet of Lake Lucerne. It is laid out around the Wine Market, a pretty square lined with houses that used to accommodate the guilds, covered with paintings and decorated with many signs. Further on, note the old Town Hall (1602-1606), a fine Renaissance building, Hirschenplatz, surrounded by handsome restored houses and Kapellplatz, in the centre of which is Fritschi fountain.
