This shaded square is the lively centre of the city. In high season, the jolly atmosphere is infectious and the cafés are bursting at the seams. The square is presided over by the Palais Municipal (which nowadays belongs to the Cercle-Cité cultural complex) and decorated with a column in honour of Michel Lentz, author of the Luxembourg national anthem, and Edmond de la Fontaine, a writer and composer who was a native of Luxembourg.
