A gate set in the former ramparts, overlooking the port, leads to this old district of narrow stepped passages and vaulted passageways which in turn lead to the church square, lined with splendid houses painted in bright colours and adorned with flowered balconies. The Gothic Church of St George was modified in the 17C and 18C, but it has retained its frescoes painted between 1470-1480. Opposite the church, note the porch (1722) which is adorned with an amusing carved head of a man with a beard and moustache, known as the Mustacon.
