This splendid estate, once the property of the Dukes of Devonshire, comprises a large 18C Italianate villa surrounded by extensive gardens created in the same period and dotted with statues and small follies. Richard Boyle, the third Count of Burlington (1694-1753), who was known for his talents as an architect, designed his property in the 1720s, taking inspiration from the Villa Capra, known as La Rotonda, built by Palladio in Vicenza.
