It takes its name from Baynards Watering, the area in which Uxbridge Road meets the Westbourne (a subterranean river). Residential development of the area began in 1827. In the 1960s, urban planning beautified the crescents, squares and terraces. Hyde Park Gate, in particular, offers some typical examples of building facades. This central district is also home to a number of small restaurants and reasonably priced hotels.
