This broad thoroughfare runs alongside Hyde Park. Although at the north end some old houses with graceful balconies survive, most have been replaced by large hotels: Grosvenor House and the Dorchester (1930); the Londonderry, where Londonderry House (1765) stood; the London Hilton, built in the 1960s on the site of a row of terraced houses; and the Intercontinental (Hamilton Place), which occupies the spot of Lord Northbrook's residence.
