The town of Lewes is made up of several very pleasant streets. The well-preserved High Street is lined by houses made from a variety of building materials, including the local speciality, "mathematical tiles". The delightful Keere Street drops steeply downhill to part of the old town. In Southover High Street, admire the half-timbered house of Anne of Cleves, which includes a gallery devoted to the iron industry, which once flourished in the local area.
