A pilgrimage site since the 15C, the Sanctuary of Bétharram is remarkable above all for its Baroque-style Chapel of Our Lady (17C), its vast monastic buildings and the Stations of the Cross which comprise 15 stations instead of the more traditional 14 (the 15th chapel, the largest of all, symbolises the resurrection). A museum houses a collection of exhibits brought back by missionaries from the congregation, while five levels of underground caves boast a phantasmagorical decor.
