In 2012 a new glass building was added to this museum which explores Friesian culture from the Stone Age to the modern era through 170 000 exhibits including gold and silverwork, Friesian paintings from the 17C onwards, furniture, traditional costumes and archaeology. This resistance museum offers a different view of Friesland through its portrayal of the years 1940-1945 through the eyes of those who lived through the war, as well as the raids, threats and occupation during it.
