This area encompassing the eastern slope of the Piton de la Fournaise is bordered by the Rempart du Tremblet to the south and the Rempart de Bois-Blanc to the north. To the south, you get a panormaic view over the Grandes Pentes. Countless black and silver-tinted lava flows have encroached on the forest, creating a fabulously desolate landscape. Several generations of eruption ejecta have poured out here, often flowing all the way to the sea, but the lava flow of 2007 has stolen the show.
