Since 1982 the museum has been housed in the former 18C palace of the archbishops of Cambrai, surrounded by a splendid park. It was entirely refurbished in the early 2000s, when a brick and glass building added. Some 170 works illustrate Matisse's extraordinary palette of colours. The Cabinet des Dessins, the finest collection in existence, is a must, as is the Tériade (art publisher) collection and the fine reconstitution of the Villa Natacha, where the Tériade received their friends.
