These low wooden houses, former boat repair workshops, lent their name to this district which extends to the west of the main dock. After being destroyed by a fire, it was rebuilt and now houses a multimedia library, the university and various museums. The modern, austere architecture is brightened here and there by a few new buildings with timber façades and by the Allée des Tamaris, a pleasant avenue which runs along the seafront as far as the Port des Minimes.
