Less than an hour's walk from Tours, St-Cosme priory, founded in 1092, welcomed pilgrims on the Way of St James until it was dismantled in the 18C. Its most famous prior was Pierre de Ronsard, who is buried in the former church, of which only ruins now remain. The "prince of poets" lived and died in the Prior's Lodge, a delightful 14C abode. A collection of memorabilia, drawings, photos, etchings and Renaissance furniture relate his life.
