The beauty and originality of this hike (11mi/18km return, easy) taking in the sea and mountains reside in the contrasts and interplay of colours from the viewpoints overlooking the ocean, below which the coast road glimmers in the sun. The stone paving of the Chemin des Anglais is testament to its place in history: it was at La Grande Chaloupe that English colonisers who had come to settle on the island landed in 1810.
