The property of the Festetics family until 1944, this 18C castle owes its survival to the intelligence of a Soviet officer who protected the castle from pillaging during the liberation by walling up several doors. As a result, it is still possible to admire the chamber of honour, the Helikon library and its thousands of volumes, period furniture and a fine collection of weapons. As you stroll round the garden, pause on the castle's terrace and enjoy the lovely view of Lake Balaton.
