Strandža Nature Park forms a natural border with Turkey. Run by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, it covers an area of 1 000sq km and its highest point is Mount Gradište (710m). Planted with oaks and beeches, the range is famous for its endemic plants and exceptionally diverse wildlife. A winding road runs through the park, offering the opportunity of stopping at Balgari, where the famous dance on a bed of embers takes place in June.
