Situated to the northwest of Hannover, the gardens contain four parks. The oldest section of the Großer Garten is a French-style garden dotted with allegorical statues. The Georgengarten was designed in the English Romantic style. The Wallmoden (William-Busch Museum) and a temple dedicated to Leibniz stand in the centre. The Berggarten glasshouses contain around 2 500 varieties of orchids, cacti and other succulent plants. The Guelph Palace (now a university) stands in the Welfengarten.
