On the edge of the town centre, this superb botanical park, partly laid out on the site of the old fortifications, is a haven of greenery for busy workers and walkers alike. Over more than 45ha, a variety of landscapes were created side by side from 1821 onwards: rose gardens (300 species), ponds and waterfalls, medicinal and Mediterranean plants, tropical greenhouses and one of the finest Japanese gardens in Europe (complete with a teahouse).
