The university church of Maria am Leech, built by the Teutonic Knights from 1275 to 1293, is Graz's oldest religious building and bears a certain resemblance to the Sainte Chapelle in Paris. Note, in particular, its early-Gothic west porch and 14C stained-glass windows, which depict Christ's Passion and the life of various saints. Excavation work has revealed that this was an ancient burial site from the 9C and 8C BC.
