A trip to to this man-made lake also allows visitors to see the Dammastock glaciers which feed it. The road heads up the narrow Göschenen Valley; at the top there are some impressive corniche sections along the edge of superb rockfaces. Leave vehicles in the car park by the restaurant and head to the middle of the dam, holding back 75 million m3 of water. The magnificent view takes in waterfalls and sparkling glaciers below the jagged ridges of the Winterberg.
