This pass, at an altitude of 2 498m, links the depression cradling the Aubert and Aumar lakes with the desolate Escoubous coomb on the slopes towards Barèges. There is a remarkable view of the tiered lakes and the smaller stretch of water known as Les Laquettes, at the foot of the Pic de Néouvielle. Far off to the southeast, the glaciated ensemble of the Maladetta massif can be seen.
