Cathedral Street is lined with pale-coloured roughcast houses, separated by covered passageways. It was in the dean's house (at no 19), that the poet and scholar of the Scottish Renaissance, Gavin Douglas (1474-1522), was consecrated Bishop of Dunkeld in 1516. In addition to his political commitment to the cause of the Douglas clan, this man has remained famous for his translation into Scots of Virgil's Aeneid.
