The most majestic monument on the Dougga site, the Capitol stands out in particular because of its attractive golden hue. Impressive in terms of both its grace and elegance, making it one of the most beautiful Roman buildings in North Africa, it is difficult not to be moved as you climb the imposing steps leading to the portico: six columns (five of which are monolithic) 8m high support an architrave on which a dedication to the Capitoline triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva is engraved. The Capitol was largely destroyed in the 6C as part of the fortification of the entire district by the Byzantines.
