The Supramonte - literally "above the mountain" - that culminates in the 1 463m-high Punta Corrasi to the southeast of Nuoro is an untamed world of unexplored caves and cork oak forests. The only humans present are a few shepherds and occasional walkers heading for the summit or into the depths of the Su Gorroppu gorge, Europe's deepest canyon. At the foot of this stone giant stretches out the splendid Golfo dei Orosei, a still untouched "below the mountain" area.
