On entering this impressive cave, the eye is immediately drawn to an enormous stalagmite which seems to support the ceiling. 38m in height, it is the second highest in the world (the tallest is in New Mexico). The cave, where the dominant colour is red, is now a fossil, as there is no more water to form new concretions. Phoenician jewellery and human bones have been found in the cave, suggesting that it was perhaps a sacrificial site.
