Note the fine 18C buildings (nos 18 to 24). In the centre of the square is the statue of Lieutenant-General Abraham Duquesne (1610-1688) who, despite his naval success, never became an Admiral because he refused to renounce the Protestant religion. On the chemist's shop is a plaque to a little-known hero, the chemist Descroizilles who went down in posterity as the inventor of the coffee filter.
