Crossing the Carpathians on the Transfagarasan is an unforgettable experience for thrill seekers. The construction of this vertiginous route was a remarkable feat of engineering. It carves a narrow path through the heart of a beautiful mountain landscape reminiscent of the Alps (its highest peak is 2 034m). It leads to the 166m-high Vidraru dam, then passes the Bâlea glacial lake, in the vicinity of which are many pleasant walks.
