Situated on the eastern bank of Coniston Lake, this was from 1872 the home of John Ruskin (1819-1900), writer, artist and reformer. There are some fine watercolours on the walls here either by him or given by the pre-Raphaelite painters that he supported. His office, in a little tower, offers a splendid view of Coniston and its lakeside setting where, to the left, the shape of the "Old Man" is reflected.
