Entered through the Porte de Savoie or Porte de France, adorned with a sundial, the Old Town of Colmars is a maze of narrow streets and little squares exuding a very Southern atmosphere, even 1 250m above sea level. The houses are tall, higher than the city walls, which allowed people to dry their sheets and straw in the sun, in open attics. See the church, Église St Martin, which is incorporated into the city walls, and visit the house-museum dedicated to the heritage of the Vallée du Haut Verdon.
