South of Chicago, the Hyde Park/Kenwood area has its fair share of architectural wonders. These include the Isidore Heller House: designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1897, it illustrates the emergence of the Prairie style. The architect succeeded in giving a horizontal effect to a vertical façade by aligning windows under low cornices, using brick to create horizontal bands and adding a Beaux-Arts frieze by sculptor Richard W. Bock.
